Dear Friends of the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
A warm welcome to all the friends and visitors to the Church of the Immaculate Heart. This Sunday our Lord tells us we cannot serve two masters. Who (or what) is it that we serve? Do we allow the love of God to rule our hearts, or do we allow our self-love, or some other worldly thing to control us?
It was good to see how many people came to honour the Sacred Heart and the Blessed Mother on First Friday and First Saturday. The First Saturday Mass is always offered for the Friends and Benefactors of the Church of the Immaculate Heart.
There are a couple of beautiful Marian feasts coming up this week. On Tuesday, nine months after the Immaculate Conception is the Birthday of Our Blessed Mother. Then, next Saturday, 12th September is the feast of the Holy Name of Mary. This feast was instituted by Pope Innocent XI in thanksgiving for the Christian victory over the Turks at the Siege of Vienna in 1683.
This Sunday we welcome Canon Lebocq who has come to Belfast for a few days.
This week, the seminarians of the Institute are on retreat as they begin the new school year. For most of the seminarians, this retreat is also a preparation for the minor and major orders they will be receiving next weekend. We have good news. Abbé Andrea de Pascale will be ordained a Subdeacon on 14th September, the Feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross. Please keep him and all the seminarians in your prayers.
Wishing you a blessed week,
